Skin Care: Homemade Facial Mask with anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial ingredients.

Updated: Aug 1, 2019

“Be good to your skin, you’ll wear it every day for the rest of your life”.

I’m a huge advocate for skin care. I believe that your skin is a great indicator of how your body is on the inside.

We all know nutrition, sleep, water and healthy hormones all play a BIG part for healthier skin.

In addition, to practicing all these wonderful health habits I like pampering myself with skin care, whether it’s homemade mask recipes or using Beauty Counter products. I am all in when it comes to my skin.

During the week I like to alternate by using homemade products to create facial masks with anti-inflammatory and super food ingredients like turmeric, yogurt, honey, apple cider, lemon and some other beneficial ingredients.

On my IG I shared a small clip showing you how easy it is to create your own homemade facial masks with simple ingredients. I usually make a batch enough for 1-2 days worth and store in a glass container and place it in the refrigerator until I use it. (I don’t use past the 3rd day, so make a small amount to avoid going to waste)

Here is why they are my go to ingredients:

Yogurt: The lactic acid in yogurt, which is an Alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) agent can help dissolve dead skin and tighten pores.

A study done on the effects of Alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) on skin of Japanese participants showed that “glycolic and lactic acid can cause improvements in both the epidermal and dermal components and support the usefulness of AHA for rejuvenating photo-damaged skin”. (Yamoto, et al., 2006)

Turmeric: Has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and antioxidant components that make it a powerhouse ingredient that helps heals wounds, acne scarring and can help improve skin conditions like psoriasis as demonstrated in a study found in BioMed Research International peer-reviewed journal.

Honey: is a natural antibacterial and has anti-fungal properties that helps clean and prevent acne. It contains a trace of hydrogen peroxide which helps with healing post acne scars and hyper pigmentation.

Lemon: Lemons are rich in vitamin C and citric acid together with its astringent qualities it can help reduce inflammation and oil on skin caused by acne. "Vitamin C is a great antioxidant for neutralizing free radicals and boosting collagen production.

Apple Cider: Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antiviral properties used as a toner to treat acne. Apple cider is an acid containing acetic and Alpha-hydroxyl acid that helps unplug blocked pores. Due to its acidity it can also be irritating to the skin so be sure to dilute it first.
